Cookie policy

The information below, regarding the use of cookies on this website, is provided to the user/visitor in implementation of the measure of the Italian Data Protection Authority “Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools” of 10 June 2021 (published in Official Gazette No. 163 of 9 July 2021) and in compliance with art. 13 of the GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation No. 679/2016).

Cookies

Cookies are usually strings of text that the websites visited by the user (so-called publishers, or “first parties”), or different sites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), place and store — directly in the case of publishers, and indirectly, i.e. through the latter, in the case of “third parties” — within a terminal device available to the user.

The terminals referred to are, for example, a computer, a tablet, a smartphone or any other device capable of storing information, including so-called IoT (Internet of Things) devices designed to connect to the network and to each other to provide services of various kinds.

The software used to browse the Internet and to operate these devices, such as browsers, can store cookies and then transmit them again to the sites that generated them during a subsequent visit by the same user, thus keeping a memory of their previous interaction with one or more websites.

The information encoded in cookies may include personal data, such as an IP address, a username, a unique identifier or an email address, but may also contain non-personal data, such as language settings or information on the type of device a person is using to browse the site.

Cookies can therefore perform several important functions, including session monitoring, storing information on specific configurations regarding users accessing the server, and facilitating the use of online content.

Macro-categories

• technical cookies, used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service” (see art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Code);
• profiling cookies, used to trace specific actions or recurring behavioural patterns in the use of the functionalities offered back to identified or identifiable individuals, in order to group the different profiles into homogeneous clusters of varying size, so that the controller can, among other things, modulate the provision of the service in an increasingly personalised way beyond what is strictly necessary to provide it, as well as send targeted advertising messages;
• monitoring or “analytics” cookies, used to collect statistical information, in aggregate form or otherwise, on the number of users who access the site and on how they visit it. The user's consent is required where third-party analytics cookies make it possible to identify the user's IP address; otherwise they may be treated as technical cookies under the conditions set out in the Authority's guidelines of 10 June 2021.

Further classifications

• session cookies, which are deleted immediately when the browser is closed;
• persistent cookies, which — unlike session cookies — remain on the device and continue to operate even after the browser has been closed, until a certain period of time has elapsed;
• first-party cookies, generated and managed directly by the operator of the website the user is browsing;
• third-party cookies, generated and managed by parties other than the operator of the website the user is browsing.

Cookies and other tracking systems used on this site

This is a static website: it uses no profiling cookies and no analytics or tracking tools. The only cookie used is a first-party cookie that remembers the choice made on the banner.

Third-party resources subject to consent

For typography the site may connect to Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited), a service that receives the visitor's IP address and the technical data of the request. The connection is not made until the user accepts: without consent the site is displayed with system fonts and no data is sent to Google. Google Fonts does not install any cookies. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

User consent

When connecting for the first time to any page of the site, the user will see a banner with brief information on the use of cookies.

The controller guarantees that, by default, only the data necessary to achieve specific purposes are processed, limiting the processing to the minimum necessary to allow users to browse the site; consequently, on the user's first access no cookie or other tracking tool is used and no third party is contacted.

The banner, sized appropriately for the different types of device in use, states that the site uses necessary cookies and third-party resources for which consent is required; it links to this extended policy; and it provides one command to accept and one command to continue with essential cookies only.

Recipients of the data

Personal data will not be disseminated. For purposes strictly functional to their management, the data will be processed by parties duly designated as data processors, in particular the website provider, for its management and maintenance, and external processors appointed to support the controller in ensuring the correct operation of the website.

Personal data may also be communicated to public and private entities where such communication is required by European provisions, laws, regulations or contract.

Retention period

Personal data collected through first-party cookies are processed by automated means for the period of time strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which they were collected. At the end of the processing, the personal data will be deleted.

How to disable cookies

Through browser settings, almost all computers allow the user to be notified whenever a cookie is sent, or to disable cookies entirely. Disabling them completely may prevent some functionality or the correct display of the site.

Rights of data subjects

Data subjects have the right to obtain from the controller, in the cases provided for, access to their personal data and the rectification or erasure of such data, the restriction of processing concerning them or to object to the processing, as well as the right to data portability (articles 15 et seq. of the GDPR).

Data subjects who believe that the processing of personal data relating to them carried out through this site infringes the Regulation have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (the Italian Data Protection Authority).

Further information

Every user can configure their browser so that it does not automatically accept cookies. Since some settings may differ depending on whether the browser is used on Mac or PC, and since browsers often change their interface and settings, we refer you to the instructions of the software manufacturers.
